Attending: Brian, JohnH, Winnie, Sam, Teng, Jens (chair+mins), Ste, PeteC The technical meeting last Friday, on DPM support. Sam and Alastair presented presentations, discussing proposed architecture for smaller sites. Non-DPM options would include ECHO/CEPH type storage, with xrootd proxy cache. EOS sort of claimed to have erasure codes as well but apparently not quite ready for production. Glasgow will be testing a CEPH based solution/alternative. Cambridge awaiting results of Mark testing xroot proxy cache; then, if satisfactory results are obtained, considering moving from DPM to xroot proxy cache. Other DPM sites have no plans at this point (or didn't attend/report) - see chatlog. Other possibilities include, of course, StoRM on Lustre, maybe not StoRM on HDFS, StoRM on CEPHFS. dCache has a CEPH version talking to the block storage. DPM on HDFS won't work, though, as it cannot work when migrating to DOME. RobA has kindly agreed to give a report from HEPiX in San Diego. Regarding DOME, still recognised as "exciting". People should use puppet rather than attempt to do things by hand; which reminds us we were talking some time ago about sharing puppet files. There's a proliferation of amateur puppet scripts; it might be better to have them reworked by people who know puppet? Apropos CEPH, UMich presented a distributed CEPH; assumes equal and sufficient bandwidth to participating sites. COmanage used to manage VOs. CTA talk didn't happen; speakers didn't receive the slides... CERN have 17PB of CEPH integrated with OpenStack manila, 4+2 EC, with S3 the default for CVMFS. BNL talk on "large and cheap" storage, $0.06-$0.11 per GB. TCO for storage also looking at cost of tape etc. Andrea Sciaba talked about disk wanted vs disk we can afford - and how it will affect the user workflows. There's a list of workflows. Workflows might also need updating for different types of storage when they go into production, e.g. NVM, but that's a different story. "Nearline HD" for cloud and HEP - like MAID? Also notes about an archive grade SSD, writeable perhaps only 20 times. Optical storage, however, has not been heard from... Brian https://indico.cern.ch/event/813140/ BD Ste Mic not working. No plan to d anything. Sorry - noplanto do anything. Keyboard not working either... SJ Teng No plan yet as well. Ceph or cache depending on what GridPP6 looks like T Ste No MIC We won't do anything, I think. We're just sittingonit. SJ Today at 10:25 AM
